Overview

The Google Bridge Club is composed of a bunch of Googlers who enjoy playing the game of Contract Bridge. Eric Anderson has a page of Links if you're interested in knowing even more about the game.

Contact

You can join the mailing list, bridge@google.com on Google's mailman server. Send an e-mail! We don't bite. The list is used for announcements and the occasional discussion of a hand or two. There is also a bridge-lessons mailing list, for when we have the occasional bridge class.

When and Where

The official start time is 7:30 pm every Monday in the second floor of Building 43, although players tend to show up around 7:00pm We have the rooms Sheba and Tummu reserved until midnight; we tend to start at the tables outside.

There is also a weekly Friday lunch meeting, at the same place, which tends to run from noon to 1pm.

Level of Play

We welcome players of all skill levels, including those who don't know the rules but want to learn. A handful of players are members of the ACBL. A few players have accounts on OKbridge. Most of the regular players are of intermediate level and we try to use the ACBL Standard Yellow Card as a bidding system (although we tend to add Ogust and RKCB).

Every week we play 12 hands that have been played by (better?) players on-line in a tournament on OKbridge. We then compare our scores against those players in the tournament. (Wei-Hwa makes these hands the week before; help is always appreciated!) Occasionally some more hands will be played.

In the past, if there has been enough interest, we teach beginners classes on another day of the week. Another possibility is to have a table playing Beginners Bridge for a while. Wei-Hwa's old lesson plans are still available (lesson 1 and lesson 2).

(What do I mean by intermediate? Let's just say that we're trying to learn end plays and Jacoby 2NT but don't know squeezes and Lebensohl.)

Bridge Supplies

The supplies are kept in a cabinet in Sheba and Tummu. We currently (2004-05-10) have:
