Responses to 1NT: - 3NT : Signoff. >= 10 HCP, balanced. - 2NT : Invitational. 8 to 10 HCP. Opener passes or bids 3NT. - P : Weak. Less than 8 points. Usually no 6-card suit. - 2C : "Non-forcing" Stayman. Invitational or better. >= 8 points. Promises at least a 4-card major. Tends to deny a 5-card (or longer) major, although possible when responder has both majors. - 2C : Garbage Stayman. Weak. Less than 8 points. 4-4-4-1 shape, with a club singleton. Will pass regardless of opener's response. - 2D/H : Jacoby Transfer to a major suit (M). 2D shows hearts, 2H shows spades. Promises a 5-card or longer suit. - 2S : Jacoby Transfer to a minor suit. Promises a 6-card or longer suit with less than invitational. Opener must bit 3C, and responder either passes or signs off in 3D. Opener's responses to Stayman: 1NT - 2C 2D - : denies a 4-card major. 2H - : shows a 4-card heart suit. May also have a 4-card spade suit. 2S - : shows a 4-card spade suit. Denies a 4-card heart suit. Responder's rebids after Stayman: 1NT - 2C, 2x - - P : Garbage Stayman. - 2NT : Invitational. 8 to 10 HCP. No fit for opener's major (if any). - Opener can bid game in the other major if there is a fit and opener is at a maximum. - 3M : Invitational. 8 to 10 points. Fit for opener's major. - If opener has a good hand but poor major, opener can bid 3NT. Responder can then pass or bid 4M as necessary. - 3NT : Signoff. >= 10 HCP. No fit for opener's major (if any). - Opener can bid game in the other major if there is a fit. - 4M : Signoff. >= 10 points. Fit for opener's major. - 3x : Natural, shows a 4-card or longer suit. Forcing to game. 1NT - 2C, 2D - 2M : Invitational. 5 of the bid major, 4 of the other. Opener's responses to a major suit Jacoby Transfer: 1NT - 2D/H 3M - : Superaccept. 17 HCP, 4-card support. - Responder should place the contract. 2M - : Normal acceptance. Other - : Partner agreement. (Some play them as feature-showing superaccepts.) Responder's rebids after normal acceptance of a Jacoby Transfer: 1NT - 2D/H, 2M - - P : 6-card suit, no game interest. Probably < 7 points. - 2NT : 5-card suit, invitational. - 3M : 6-card suit (or better), invitational. - 3NT : 5-card suit, asking for a choice between 3NT and 4M. - 4M : 6-card suit (or better), sign-off. - Other : Natural, shows a 4-card or longer suit. Tends to deny a 6-card suit in the major. Forcing to game. 1NT - 2D, 2H - 2S : Partner agreement. (possibly 5-5 in the majors with no game interest).
