Solving the 6x6x6 and 7x7x7 Magic Cubes
Disclaimer: I'm not a speedcuber, so I don't memorize large
groups of moves and often spend time hunting around looking
for colors. The theoretical minimum speed is about five
times as fast. I'm just playing around here with different
solving methods. This page was created in September 2008.
(This page was mostly an excuse to get practice learning how
to embed Flash-based video in a webpage.)
The large cubes are from V-Cube.
I'm currently helping to write a book all about the Magic Cube puzzles
and am mostly in charge of writing the solutions sections.
6x6x6, Edges Last
This is currently my favorite method of solving. I solve two
opposite faces, then a U-shaped area around each of them, then
two more adjacent faces and the edge between them, then the last
four corners and the remaining edges.
6x6x6, Faces Last
Finish all edges and corners, then do the faces.
7x7x7, Edges Last
7x7x7, Faces Last
7x7x7, Centers Outwards
This one starts at the centers and slowly builds outwards from them.
I expected this to be the slowest technique by far, but it turns
out that it's not that much worse. And it's kinda fun.
